Museu de Astronomia e Ciencias Afins


The Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences (MAST) is a multi-activity center located in Brazil. As a public federal establishment created in 1985, MAST provides activities relating to the history of science and technology, working to disseminate scientific education. Conncted as a research center for the Ministry of Science, MAST conducts university studies in the field of the history of science, science education and the preservation of collections. In addition to producing knowledge, MAST organizes conferences, seminars, publications and databases. As a museum, they are in charge of major collections of instruments, objects and documents relating to Brazilian scientific activity. These collections have been identified by the Institute on National Historic and Artistic Heritage. In support of this, MAST has working laboratories for the conservation and restoration of paper as well as the preservation of scientific instruments. They have participated in the project "Technology and sciences for the exploration of the geophysical and aerial space, in Brazil, in the Twentieth Century", financed by the Institutional Budjet and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development.
