The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), established in 1969 as part of the Université du Québec network, is renowned for its interdisciplinary programs, research rooted in social concerns, and strong engagement with the community. It welcomes up to six exchange students for a specialization semester during the final semester of the last year of their program, within the Canada Research Chair in Urban Heritage.

Drawing on this research environment, heritage studies at UQAM are developed through three main programs that bring together history, art and architectural history, ethnology, sociology, and management :

  • The Master’s in Urban Studies

  • The Master’s in Tourism Development

  • The Master’s in Museology

The Chair maintains numerous partnerships with organizations working in the field of industrial heritage, including the Association québécoise pour le patrimoine industriel and various regional museums. Grounded in the history of architecture and urban planning, the Chair approaches heritage through the characterization and enhancement of the built landscape, public policies, and historical and contemporary urban dynamics.
