TPTI relies on a network of scientists working on long-standing issues of technical thought, the social history of industry, industrial archeology in connection with the land and regional development. The main language of this network, which has close links with universities in Central Europe, Latin America and Central America, is French. The reasons are historical : the adoption in the industrialization phase of engineering models, architectural and entrepreneurial family, the significant technology transfers and learning, have emerged a common technical culture, using French as the language of intra-national. Working knowledge of French is necessary for understanding and analyzing a large number of technical statements and other documents relating to the field, present in public and private archives of the countries concerned. The languages of instruction are :
- French at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in France.
- French and English at the University of Padua in Italy.
- French at the University of Evora in Portugal.
► What level ?
A common expression in spoken and written French is essential (ALTE 4 or 5, or C1). A good command of English (European ALTE 3 or 4, or minimum level B2) is required.
► A language support
The language support for students is in three levels : 1. Upon arrival at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, students TPTI receive an intensive course for each language, French and English, with course of civilization. Under the agreement between the Universities of Paris 1, Paris V and Paris VII, specific training is organized within the framework of the "Université Paris Centre", funded by the three universities and specializing in language support for foreigners students. 2. The curriculum TPTI for each semester includes specific instruction for language worth 5 ECTS credits for a total of 39 hours taught and divided as follows :
- 2.5 ECTS or 19.5 hours compulsory education in language lessons, English or French.
- 2.5 ECTS or 19.5 hours of instruction in the vernacular (French, Portuguese, Italian).
Coupled languages taught will be :
French (for French speakers: introduction to Portuguese or Spanish or Italian or Czech)
English (for English speakers: introduction to Portuguese or Spanish, or Italian or Czech)
Italian (for Italian speakers: initiation / strengthening in French or Portuguese or Spanish)
English (for English speakers: initiation / strengthening in Portuguese or Spanish or French)
French (for French speakers: initiation / strengthening in Italian or English or Spanish)
Portuguese (Lusophone for: initiation / strengthening in Italian or English)
These are all cases of course dedicated and organized by language centers in each university: Pole FLEU of the University Paris Center and SELVA at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Centre for Research and Teaching Linguistics and Literature at the University of Evora, CLA - Centro Linguistico Ateneo University of Padua. 3. At S4, students receive refresher courses in the language of thesis writing.
As part of their mobility specialty, the Centro Superior de Idiomas at the University of Alicante offers training in Spanish, adapted to the different needs of students (language courses with different levels supplementary courses on culture and civilization Spanish). In Sfax, the lessons are taught in French. The Bourguiba School of Languages, offers a wide range of language courses. In Prague, the lessons are taught in French and English, but students wishing to train in the Czech attend courses organized by JASPEX with the Masaryk Institute of the Technical University in Prague.
